Millions to Receive the Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine Doses across the US

The United States is all set to start its COVID-19 vaccination drive with the doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that is ready to be delivered to hospitals. The United States comes in the top list of the worst-hit countries from coronavirus pandemic. As per the Worldometer’s COVID-19 data, the USA has so far been registered with over 16.7 million COVID-19 cases and 306,459 total deaths.
On the other hand, with regards to the distribution of vaccine, operational guidelines have been issued by India to all states as well as Union Territories (UTs). Whereas, Pakistan is witnessing a surge in coronavirus re-infections at several health centres. Thus, there is an increase in the funds allocated for purchasing vaccines from $150 million to $230 million.
The latest developments regarding the COVID-19 vaccine are:
- The United States is all set to start its vaccination program today. Pfizer vaccine will be provided as soon as possible to senior government officials, including those working in close proximity with President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and other top leaders. The vaccines from the pharmaceutical company will enter hospitals and other locations in the United States.
- An emergency use approval to the vaccine has been granted by the US Food and Drug Administration.
- In this upcoming week, a total of 636 hospitals as well as clinic across the states will be receiving the vaccine under Operation Warp Speed.
- An estimation of 2.9 million doses of Pfizer is expected to be delivered this week through UPS and FedEx.
- By next summer, it is expected that as much as 80 per cent of the U.S population would be vaccinated against COVID-19 by putting “herd immunity” within reach.
- In American history, the shipments of the Pfizer vaccine will be specified as the biggest vaccination effort.
- The first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer/BioNTech has been delivered to Canada and it is expected to receive up to 249,000 doses before the end of December, which would allow up to 124,500 Canadians to get vaccinated before the year ends.
