According to WABetainfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, the new inclusion of self-destructing videos and images will be referred to as Expiring Media. “Expiring Messages” function is already in the works, and the “Expiring Media” option will be an extension of it.
It’s unclear whether WhatsApp will enable users to replay photos and videos as Snapchat does. If users deactivate read receipts, the receiver will still be able to know if the photo or video set to see once has been opened. The sender, on the other hand, will be unable to observe when the receiver has viewed the media. Even if read receipts in groups are disabled, users may see when other members access expired photos.
The functionality is now being rolled out to beta testers and is compatible with Android users running version 2.21.14.3, according to pictures shared by features tracker WaBetaInfo. Users will be able to transmit expiring material by shooting live snaps or selecting photographs from their gallery.
Meanwhile, the business is about to release its most significant upgrade, which will include multi-device compatibility. The functionality is reported to be nearing completion, and once released, users will be able to utilize their WhatsApp accounts on several devices at the same time.
Not only is a Snapchat-like feature coming to WhatsApp, but the instant messaging service may soon allow users to pick the quality of the video they wish to post. There is currently no option because the software compresses them by default before transmitting. When this functionality is released, users will be able to choose which videos they want in high definition and which they are fine within low resolution.
