Reliance Entertainment and T-Series have teamed up to make nearly ten films together across varied genres that include big-budget as well as mid and small-budget content-rich films. This massive collaboration, which brings together two big production organizations with an investment of almost INR 1000 crore, would result in films of various genres, production scales, talent, and music.
T-Series and Reliance Entertainment, owned by Bhushan Kumar, have collaborated on music marketing for over 100 films. For the first moment, both studios will collaborate to make a series of movies, marking the beginning of a bigger long-term content creation collaboration between the two companies.
According to reports, the heads of both production organizations claimed that some of these feature films will be released as early as next year.
The contract is one of the largest in recent Indian filmmaking history, but it comes at a time when most studios are abandoning theatres in favor of over-the-top platforms like Amazon and Netflix. People in the country are increasingly turning to internet streaming due to theatre closures and restrictions.
T-Series Chairman and Managing Director Bhushan Kumar, on the other hand, believes that big budgets cannot be repaid without movie theatres. According to the news source, Kumar stated, we can’t make such enormous investments, such big films simply taking OTT in mind.
A variety of movies that have been ready for release since last year have been postponed by both organizations. Even with such lavish agreements, things aren’t always straightforward. The state of Maharashtra, for example, has refused to allow movie theatres to reopen. A mainstream Hindi film’s revenue is estimated to be between 30 and 50 percent dependent on the state. According to Kumar, Maharashtra is a “big market” and a key to box-office success.
The vaccine campaign has picked up, according to Shibasish Sarkar, CEO of Reliance Entertainment, and all hopes are based on it. According to the news reports, he stated, even if a third wave arrives by September or October, we should be out of this in the following several months.
Bhushan Kumar expressed the hope that cinemas would reopen in time for Diwali in early November. However, it would depend on how far the virus has been contained, as reports indicate that a third wave is probable.
