In India, Amazon relaunches its one-month Prime membership plan. Earlier this year monthly subscription of Amazon Prime was discontinued, when the Reserve Bank of India issued new guidelines requiring the adoption of an Additional Factor of Authentication (AFA) for recurring online payments. Until now, the company only provides three-month and annual Prime memberships. The Amazon Prime monthly subscription is INR 129. However, relaunch with a few restrictions and cannot be purchased entirely through the electronic payment option.
When you visit the Amazon Prime subscription page, you will now see three alternatives if you are new to the subscription industry. Amazon has now featured three membership rates, including an INR 129 monthly plan, an INR 329 three-month plan, and an INR 999 yearly plan. The three-month subscription, which was previously priced at INR 387, has been reduced by Amazon. There’s a catch, New subscribers can purchase the yearly and three-month plans using any electronic method, but the INR 129 monthly plan can only be purchased using credit or debit cards.
The INR 129 monthly plan may only be purchased using debit and credit cards from banks that have met with new RBI requirements for recurring payments, according to Amazon’s FAQ page. Amazon had also halted new member sign-ups for the free trial of Amazon Prime until further notice.
Kindly note that unless your bank complies with the RBI’s e-mandate requirements, it may not be able to execute any requests for automated payments on your credit or debit cards after October 1, 2021. As a result, until further notice, we have temporarily halted new member sign-ups for the Amazon Prime Free Trial. By manually renewing/signing up for the Monthly, Three-Month, or Annual Prime Membership here, you can continue to enjoy Prime membership benefits. The amendment in this notice will take effect on October 1, 2021, and will supersede any conflicting positions in the Prime T&Cs below, amazon said.
The new mandate was revealed by the RBI in August of this year. It was designed to work with cards and wallets at first, but it was later expanded to include Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions as well.
