Instagram reportedly testing a new feature to reply to Stories with image & voice
By Sanjay Maurya
Instagram is reportedly testing a feature that would allow users to reply to Stories with an image or a voice message, according to a tweet from software developer Alessandro Paluzzi. In a separate tweet, Paluzzi added that Instagram is also working on a feature that would allow users to share posts using a QR code. The screenshots shared by Paluzzi show the familiar message box where you can reply to users’ stories but with a change: one screenshot features an image icon and another features a mic icon along with the “GIF” icon that was already present. Presumably, users can tap on these icons to reply to Stories with either an image or a voice message.
The new picture reply function will provide a new way for users to respond to Instagram Stories, and it will help Instagram grow beyond just a photo-sharing service.

Currently, the only ways to respond to an Instagram story are with text, a GIF, or the eight available reactions. A story-liking function was recently implemented, notifying the user instead of sliding into their direct messages (DMs). Alessandro Paluzzi, a well-known software developer, discovered the feature. He spotted a microphone symbol and an image icon. After then, the developer took a screenshot and shared it on Twitter. It’s unclear whether the feature was available on iOS or Android. Instagram has yet to provide any information on these developments.
In a related development, Instagram just introduced a slew of new capabilities to its platform. To begin with, the company returned chronological feed to its platform in the form of the Following feed, which shows posts from everyone they follow, and the Favourites feed, which shows the most recent posts from accounts they choose. Meta has also released a tool that allows viewers to add captions to their posts with a single click.
