Uber hacked: A Message sent and then an 18-year-old boy hacked Uber’s entire network!
Uber is on high alert after a hacker claimed that the ride-hailing giant suffered a data breach. The company has said it is investigating a cyber security incident and has also alerted law-enforcement officials. The alleged breach reportedly forced Uber to take several internal communications and engineering systems offline.

According to a New York Times report, a cybercriminal hacked an Uber employee’s Slack app, which is a workplace messaging app. After that, the hacker used his account to inform other staff members that there had been a data breach in the Uber system. The hacker was able to access other internal company systems in addition to sending messages to the staff. He published an explicit image of an internal information page for employees.
“I declare I am a hacker and Uber has suffered a data breach. Slack has been stolen…” the hacker wrote on Slack.
According to the New York Times report, the hacker is 18 years old. In this data breach, the information about the data leak of the users has not been revealed so far.
“We are in touch with law enforcement and will post additional updates here as they become available,” the company said in a tweet.
How did the hacker get into the Uber network?
The hacker told the New York Times that he had sent a message to an Uber employee claiming to be a corporate information technology officer. The hacker prompted the employee to share his password and the employee fell into its trap. The hacker revealed that he was only 18 years old and had been working on his cyber security skills for years. Slack has informed Reuters in this case that the company is investigating the incident. There is no vulnerability on their platform. Uber has advised its employees not to use Slack for now.
This is not the first time Uber has been the victim of a data breach. Even before this, the company has come under the purview of investigative agencies. In 2016, the data of 5.7 crore drivers and riders available on the platform was leaked. To suppress this matter, the company also gave the hackers one million dollars. However, in 2017, this case came to the public.
