Residents of Delhi can now enjoy open-air dining at their favourite restaurants as long as certain requirements set up by the relevant authority have been met.
Restaurants in the nation’s capital with terraces and open dining spaces won’t need to obtain an additional fire safety certificate from the Delhi Fire Service, according to an official document.
According to reports, after the implementation of the new policy of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, many restaurants owners are applying for it. In such a situation, the corporation is approving 25-30 applications. According to reports, the entire process of accepting the application takes three to four days. In such a situation, the corporation has received 250 applications so far, so 25-30 applications are being approved daily.
The use of open spaces and terraces has come with some restrictions
The order mentioned that the space used for serving food shall not be covered either permanently or temporarily, while fast food stalls, ice cream parlours, paan and bidi stalls, etc. will not be allowed. Along with this, no music beyond the permissible limit and no live performance will be allowed.
Laying down the norms, the MCD said that when a terrace is permitted for the purposes of dining and food serving, the existing capacity of the eating house approved as per the licence given by MCD shall continue to apply. Emphasizing that the use of the terrace will not allow additional seating capacity, it said the seating capacity at the terrace would be included while counting the utilisation of the seating capacity.
“For example, if a restaurant owner has taken permission for 70 visitors, then the total number of visitors including those having their meal at the terrace, won’t go beyond 70 at a time,” the official said.
