Amazon restores service after a global outage, reasons behind popular sites go down
Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) announced on July 12 that its online stores have resumed regular operations following a global outage that had affected shopping on its country sites.
According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, services were affected for over two hours, with over 38,000 user complaints indicating difficulties with Amazon’s online stores at the peak of the interruption. They struck on Sunday evening in the United States and early Monday morning in much of the rest of the world.
Some consumers may have encountered problems when shopping. An Amazon spokesman stated, “We have addressed the issue, and everything is currently functioning well.”
Some of the domains were back up as of 0400 GMT. Amazon did not reply quickly to queries for information on the scope of the service recovery. According to Downdetector, over 38,000 user complaints suggested problems with Amazon’s online retail site, while over 500 customers reported problems with Amazon Web Services.
According to Downdetector, around 80% of the reported difficulties were with its website, 15% with log-ins, and 5% with its check-out services. However, Amazon.com Inc has stated that its online stores have resumed regular operations following a global outage that affected purchasing on its country sites.
Top 3 Common Reasons for popular sites go down
When your website goes down, a website monitoring service will notify you, but the cause of the problem is generally unclear.
01 – Server Maintenance
Server maintenance is required for hardware upgrades as well as security and software updates. Users are alerted in advance, and the majority of maintenance is performed when there is low activity on a site. For most enterprises, midnight is a good time to get started.
02 – Coding Errors
Coding is a very cerebral task, and when the cerebrum is full, a developer may forget to close a line of code or comment on something critical to the operation of your website. It’s usually a simple fix once the developer downs a Monster and goes over lines of code related to site operation.
03 – Server Overload
When too many users try to access your website at the same time, your server may get overloaded. An example of this is when concert tickets go on sale and the website collapses shortly afterward. Traffic increases might be temporary, but the effects on your company’s reputation can be long-lasting.
