Amazon is the latest big technology company to unveil major layoffs as the cost of living crisis forces customers to cut spending.
Let us tell you that the technology giant said last year that it would reduce the number of its employees but did not share any numbers. However, some reports said that the company was planning to lay off 10,000 employees. At present, the company has increased this figure to almost double and from this month the affected employees will also start getting information about it.
Andy Jassy has said that We are working to support those who are affected and are providing packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support. The CEO further said that the company is going through a lot of difficulties right now and such steps will continue to be taken till the uncertainty over the business is over.
The year 2022 was disastrous for the tech industry as big players in the industry resorted to layoffs and hiring freezes to cut costs amid the economic slowdown. Microsoft, Twitter, Meta, Amazon, Netflix, and many other global players laid off employees. According to data from Layoffs. FYI, the total number of layoffs in 2022 was more than 2 lakhs.
