By Sanjay Maurya
For iPhone, Apple announces a new Tap to Pay function. Small businesses and major merchants can use the new functionality to accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets through a simple tap on their iPhone. No additional hardware is required for contactless payments. In a blog post, Apple said the iPhone’s Tap to Pay functionality will be available for payment platforms, app developers, to integrate into their apps.

Tap to Pay feature
Using this feature, merchants will be able to unlock contactless payment acceptance using supported iOS apps. The consumer will be asked to hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near the merchant’s iPhone during checkout, and payments will be made securely via NFC technology. No additional hardware is required to accept contactless payments. According to Apple, customers’ payment data with Tap to Pay on iPhone is also protected, and all transactions made using the service are encrypted.
Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, said in a blog post about the new feature, Tap to Pay on iPhone will provide businesses with a secure, private, and easy way to accept contactless payments and unlock new checkout experiences using the power, security, and convenience of iPhone as more consumers tap to pay with digital wallets and credit cards. We’re making it easier than ever for companies of all kinds — from solopreneurs to huge shops — to take contactless payments and continue to build their business, thanks to our partnership with payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks.
It’s worth noting that customers in the United States will be able to use the Tap to Pay function later this year. On an iPhone XS or later device, the function will be available. Older iPhones, such as the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, will not be able to use the function.
