Cheapest & most expensive countries for mobile data revealed: Where does India stand?
India has two reasons to smile when it comes to the Internet – on the second day of India’s first 5G spectrum auction after five rounds, the Center not only received a record bid of INR 1.49 lakh crore but also ranked fifth cheapest across the world for mobile data.
According to the Worldwide Mobile Data Pricing 2022 list compiled by Cable.co.uk, India is among the top five countries with the least expensive mobile data plans. According to the report, India ranks fifth among 233 countries in terms of mobile data prices. The research looked at the cost of 1GB of mobile data in all 233 countries. The report found that the average price of 1GB of mobile data in India was $0.17 (approximately INR 13.5).
The research claims that Israel offers the lowest mobile data, with 1GB of data costing just $0.04, or around INR 3.20. The second-cheapest mobile data provider in the world is found in Italy, where 1GB costs just $0.12, which is equivalent to about INR 9.59. San Marino ranks third on the list with a 1GB mobile data cost of $0.14, which is equivalent to about INR 11.19. Fiji and India come next on the list and provide 1GB of mobile data at $0.15 and $0.17, respectively (roughly around INR 11.99 and INR 13.59, respectively).
The report also revealed the names of 5 countries that offer the most expensive mobile data globally Saint Helena is at the top of the list with a 1GB mobile data cost of $41.06. (roughly around INR 3,323.92). The next countries on the list are the Falkland Islands, So Tomé and Príncipe, Tokelau, and Yemen, with 1GB of mobile data costing, respectively, $38.45 (INR 3,072.11), $29.49 (INR 2,356.21), $17.88 (INR 1,428.59), and $16.58 (INR 1,324.72).
India is currently preparing for the imminent arrival of 5G. At least by the end of this year, telecom providers like Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vi want to offer 5G services in the nation. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “Bids worth INR 1,49,454 crore have been received till the end of the ninth round. Analysts say Ambani’s Reliance Jio could be the most aggressive in the race. The minister said that all the bands of the spectrum are seeing the demand.
