Delhi govt to impose weekend curfew amid rising cases of covid-19
By Sanjay Maurya
After the uncontrollable pace of Corona in the national capital Delhi, it has now been decided to impose a weekend curfew. According to reports, this important decision has been taken in the meeting of DDMA called on Tuesday (4th Jan 2022). In light of the low number of hospitalizations, the DDMA agreed at its most recent meeting on December 29 that Covid-related restrictions imposed in Delhi under the ‘yellow alert’ will be maintained.

Under the DDMA-approved Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), a positive rate of more than 5% for two consecutive days will trigger a ‘red alert,’ resulting in a ‘complete curfew’ and the suspension of most economic operations. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia revealed the facts of the meeting, saying that a weekend curfew will be implemented in the national capital starting January 8.
Government employees, except those involved in critical services, will be required to work from home under the new instructions. Private offices have been requested to remain open with 50 percent capacity.
He urged people to stay at home on Saturdays and Sundays and only leave the house in an emergency. Sisodia advised people not to worry in the face of the COVID epidemic, claiming that the research so far suggests that Omicron spreads quickly but is less severe. He, on the other hand, warned people not to be complacent and advised them to wear masks and avoid crowding in public areas. DTC buses and metro will run at full capacity, according to Sidodia.
COVID cases were on the rise, but Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain stated the issue was under control since individuals were not becoming sufficiently ill enough to require hospitalization. The minister stated during the present session of the Assembly that none of the Omicron-infected patients in Delhi’s hospitals had required oxygen so far. There was no need to worry, he stressed, and he requested people to keep following social distancing and use masks. Under the yellow warning, the government has closed theaters and gyms, and non-essential stores are opening on an odd-even basis, while metro and buses have limited their seating capacity to 50 percent.
According to the national capital’s Health Minister, 81% of all COVID-19 samples tested in Delhi are of the highly transmissible Omicron form. Health Minister Satyendar Jain told news agency PTI that Omicron strain was discovered in 81 percent of samples in genome sequencing data from December 30-31. In India, the Omicron variety has spread to 23 states. With 510 cases, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state, followed by Delhi with 351 infections.
