Facebook, now Meta, earns the title of ‘Worst Company of 2021’ in survey

Every year, Yahoo Finance has a vote to choose the best company of the year based on stock prices, market value, and other variables. Yahoo Finance held an open-ended survey to select the worst company of 2021, in addition to naming the greatest (which is Microsoft). And Facebook, which is now known as Meta, has been named the worst corporation of 2021.
According to a Yahoo Finance analysis, the majority of the 1,541 respondents chose Meta as the “worst company of the year”. The social media behemoth earned 50% more votes than the second-place finisher, Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce corporation. It earned 8% of the write-in vote as well.

Facebook has been part of scandals this year, according to Yahoo Finance. After the messaging service introduced a new privacy policy in January, Meta-owned WhatsApp became embroiled in a major uproar (Terms of Service). For a better user experience, WhatsApp announced it will gather user data and share it with third-party apps. The app, on the other hand, offered consumers no option but eventually changed the rules under duress.

In 2021 – Similarly, the corporation came under increased scrutiny after former Facebook employee and whistleblower Frances Haugen revealed a series of confidential papers revealing the company’s problematic practices. Meta-owned Instagram was found to have a harmful influence on young females, yet the business did little to address the issue.
At the same time, some opponents, notable conservatives, argue Facebook over-policed the platform’s speech and repressed their voices, according to Yahoo Finance. Critics also point the finger at Facebook and other social media platforms for failing to stop hate speech that resulted in disturbances in the Capitol Building.
Around 30% of Yahoo Finance users, on the other hand, believe that Facebook or Meta may save the company. One commenter proposed that the corporation offer a formal apology for its carelessness and donate a significant portion of its income to a charity to help mitigate the damage. Respondents, on the other side, voted Microsoft as the Company of the Year (2021). This year, the firm led by Satya Nadella passed the trillion-dollar barrier and launched significant advancements. The Windows 11 OS upgrade, which succeeds Windows 10, is the most noteworthy.
