Facebook launches smart glasses ‘Ray-Ban Stories’, know how it works, price, and more

On 8th September, Facebook announced the introduction of its first smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban, in the hopes of providing actual augmented-reality spectacles. The glasses, which were developed in partnership with Ray-Ban maker EssilorLuxottica, will allow users to listen to music, make phone calls, take 30-second videos and photos, and share them to Facebook’s services via the new Facebook View app.
Facebook said in a blog post unveiling Ray-Ban Stories, Now, we’re excited to introduce Ray-Ban Stories: smart glasses which offer the user a new way to capture photos and video, share your adventures, listen to music or take phone calls so that you can stay present with friends, family, and the world around you.
Ray-Ban Stories Price
Facebook and EssilorLuxottica collaborated to develop smart glasses. The Ray-Ban Stories will cost you at least $299 (INR 21,000 approximately). It will be offered in 20 different style combinations online and in select retail outlets in the United States, as well as Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Facebook has not stated whether or not the smart glasses would be available in India. As a result, Indian consumers may have to wait sometime to try out the smart glasses, as a release date does not appear to be near.
Ray-Ban Stories: Specifications
Two front 5MP cameras are built into the frame of the glasses, which will capture photos and videos. “Hey Facebook, take a video,” the wearer simply says for a hands-free experience. There’s also a record button on the glasses. When you snap a picture or record a video with your smart glasses, a hard-wired capture LED lights up, according to the company’s blog.
The Ray-Ban Stories also has built-in speakers and a three-microphone audio array for better voice and sound transfer during calls and videos. In smart glasses, the company has developed a beamforming technology that reduces background noise while on a call and improves the calling experience.
