The United States of America, Mexico, and Canada will together host the 2026 World Cup, FIFA announced on Thursday (June 16). The tournament will take place in 11 cities across the United States, 3 host cities in Mexico, and two cities in Canada. FIFA officials will decide which of the 16 cities will host group play and elimination round matches at a later date.

“We congratulate the 16 FIFA World Cup Host Cities on their outstanding commitment and passion,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a news release.
“Today is a historic day for everyone in those cities and states, for FIFA, for Canada, the United States and Mexico that will put on the greatest show on earth. As we aim to make football truly global, we look forward to collaborating with them to create what will be an unparalleled FIFA World Cup and a game-changer,” he added.

The 2026 men’s World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams and will be held in three countries for the first time. A total of 60 of the 80 games in the tournament including all knockout games from the quarter-finals onwards will take place at US venues. After the first in 1994, the United States will host the World Cup for the second time, while Mexico will host the third tournament, after hosting in 1970 and 1986. Although Canada hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2015, this will be the first time a Men’s World Cup match will be played there.
