Google has launched its worldwide offering, News Showcase, in India
News Showcase, which will be launched in October 2020, is a global vehicle for paying news publishers for their online content. It also enables collaborating publishers to select content and gives consumers limited access to paywalled articles.
The 30 Indian publishers to offer access to some of their content on News Showcase: –
- HT Digital Streams Ltd
- The Hindu Group
- Indian Express Group
- ABP LIVE
- India Tv
- DTV
- Zee News
- Amar Ujala
- Deccan Herald
- Punjab Kesari
- The Telegraph India
- IANS (Indo Asian News Service)
- ANI
- And some other Indian Publishers.
The work of these publishers will begin to appear in Google News’ dedicated News Showcase panels, as well as Discover pages in English and Hindi. In the future, more local languages will be offered.
“That’s something we’re working on with each publisher on an individual basis,” said Brad Bender, vice president of product management, news, at Google Inc.
Google has entered editorial curation licensing deals with publishers, and it will also pay partner news organizations to provide users with restricted access to paywalled material.
Google also stated that, as part of its Google News Initiative (GNI), it will educate 50,000 journalists and journalism students to improve their digital abilities to help report and combat misinformation online.
The GNI Digital Growth Programme, according to the corporation, will provide free training courses in audience development and product creation to new businesses. With over 700 news outlets, It is now available in various countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia.
About Google News Showcase
Google News Showcase, a program in which the search engine pays publishers to select news material, has debuted in the United Kingdom and Argentina. The service now includes over 120 periodicals in the United Kingdom, and 40 media in Argentina have signed up. Last year, News Showcase opened in Germany, Brazil, and Australia, and currently features over 450 sites across the world.
News Showcase Availability
Available on Android, and the mobile web, It may be found in the Google News app, as well as Discover on iOS. Discover is available on some Android phones, such as Google Pixel smartphones, simply swiping left on the home screen.
