Domestic airlines and airports may consider playing Indian music in their flights and terminals, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) has recommended Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to promote Indian music in flights operated by Indian carriers.
In a letter to Directorate General of Civil Aviation chief Arun Kumar and Airports Authority of India chairperson Sanjeev Kumar, Ministry of Civil Aviation Joint Secretary Usha Padhee wrote, Most of the music played by most of the airlines worldwide is quintessential of the country to which the airline belongs, for example, Mozart in Austrian airlines, Jazz in American airlines, and Arab music in an airline from the Middle East.
However, Indian airlines rarely play Indian music on flights, the ministry stated, despite the fact that our music has a rich tradition and culture and is one of the many things that every Indian has a cause to be proud of. It was mentioned that India has a wide range of traditional music. Indian music spans several genres in multiple sorts and styles, including classical music, folk, light vocal, instrumental music, and so on, it said, citing the country’s size and variety.
The directive stated, The Ministry of Civil Aviation has received a request from the ICCR to play Indian music in aircraft operating by Indian carriers and at airports under regulatory requirements.
On December 23, the ICCR, an autonomous government of India organization under the Ministry of External Affairs, urged Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to promote Indian music on Indian airlines’ flights. Rajya Sabha MP and ICCR President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe delivered the letter to Scindia last week.
On December 23, Scindia had visited to the ICCR headquarters, where he offered many recommendations, including the promotion of Indian music on planes. At the time of passenger boarding and de-boarding, airlines normally play standard piped music in the aircraft. Some airlines even play specially designed brand melodies or songs.
Anu Malik, Kaushal S Inamdar, Shounak Abhisheki, Malini Awasthi, Manjusha Patil K, Sanjeev Abhyankar, Rita Ganguly, and Wasifuddin Dagar were among the prominent artists and musicians who attended the meeting, according to the report.
