Snow Lover’s Trivia: IMD predicts heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh next week
As cold wave conditions continue in Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday (January 17) predicted a drop in temperature with heavy snowfall and rain during the next week in the state.
Most places in the state saw sub-zero conditions and the temperature dropped by 3 to 4 degrees in the region. The IMD has predicted snowfall and rain in the state in the coming week. According to officials, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the region.

There won’t be a significant shift in the weather in the next 48 hours, according to Surender Paul, Head of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Himachal Pradesh, in a statement to ANI. The state’s temperatures have decreased. The rain and snowfall will continue after January 19 in most of the places in the state.
He continued, “Heavy snowfall will occur in Shimla & other areas of the state next week. The lowest recorded minimum temperature was -11 degrees Celsius at Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti. In the upcoming days, the temperature will drop. There is another strong western disturbance expected between 22 and 26 January in the region,” he added.
In its forecast, the Meteorological Department told PTI that dense fog would occur at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, Solan, and Mandi till Monday. Heavy snowfall is expected in Hamirpur, Una, Sirmaur, and Bilaspur on Thursday and Friday, while thunder and lightning may occur at isolated places in the plains, lower and mid hills.
Light rain expected in Delhi-NCR
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that light to moderate rain and hailstorm accompanied by winds gusting up to 50 kmph can be predicted over northwest India including Delhi.
The IMD said that an active Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from January 21 to January 25. The Met Office said light to moderate hailstorm is likely at isolated places over Jammu, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan on January 23 and 24.
