Kangaroo Kids, India’s premium early childhood education brand, has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Preschools in 2022. Since its inception, Kangaroo Kids has been bringing in innovation and enhancing the learning experience for young children around the country. In 2022, Kangaroo Kids has RE-imaged and REcreated ‘A Whole New Concept in Learning’ – iCan Learning System. This shift has been undertaken to create an agile, fluid and adaptable learning environment. This Fluidic Learning Methodology is an innovative transition from the structured, teacher-led learning process to a fluid child-led learning system.
This curriculum was built on the ‘I Can affirmations’ that are Measurable, Specific, Contextual, Graded, Communicative, and Matched to the proficiency level of the learners. These ‘I Can’ affirmations were recognized to build positive affirmations in the children right from a young age. According to neuroscience research, people continue to acquire new skills, learn new concepts, and embed new habits, talent and capabilities, if we believe in ourselves and are willing to evolve through experiences. The new iCan Curriculum was built on a competence based education approach whereby each learner receives a clear set of learning targets and gets the support they need to master each topic before they move on to the next.
Kangaroo Kids ensures that as early as kindergarten, children know what they need to learn and how to work independently. The instructors at Kangaroo Kids continuously explore all the possibilities that young learners are capable of or CAN do, rather than focusing on what they cannot. Using ‘I CAN’ statements in communication encourages confidence and a mindset of growth in young learners.
With this new innovation, learners have enough opportunities to hone their logical, reasoning skills by identifying problems and generating possible solutions, to come to a decision. Kangaroo Kids ensures that the learning that takes place is Integrated as well as Interdisciplinary. Learners are encouraged to explore themes such as Physical Science, Social Science, Earth and Environmental Science, Life/Biological Science and Chemical Science. Young children through this curriculum will observe objects with curiosity, explore cause and effect relationships and apply this knowledge to a new context. They will learn to evaluate ideas, form opinions, and deduce to conclusions for themselves.
To acquire the foundation for logical thinking, we at Kangaroo Kids give children many opportunities to count, sort, etc. through the E-L-P-S approach (Experience – Language – Picture -Symbol). The young learners will build and connect mathematical concepts to real-world situations across disciplines, as they learn to identify objects, make comparisons, predict, test ideas and share discoveries. The curriculum is designed in a way whereby each child will use technology as an instructional tool to explore, create, find out about, and understand the world, and learn at their own pace.
Our young learners will develop computational thinking and activities that have them logically organize and analyse data to create solutions through theme-related application games and coding power sheets. SkippyTech, the in-house app of Kangaroo Kids, has been developed using the neuroscience approach to fast-track learning of vocabulary and reading. It has activities that are hands-on, engaging, build enjoyment and provide scaffolding to ease the accomplishment of tasks, as learners take responsibility for learning.
We ensure our young children respond to new information and learn to “shift gears” between tasks easily, encouraging them to adapt and adjust to routines and transitions independently. Kangaroo Kids also brings in group activities (including project-based learning), whereby the learners will connect and engage with others to share and develop ideas, collaborate to plan, carry out, and review constructions. This will provide higher engagement opportunities for scaffolding and assessing their progress.
Kangaroo Kids continuously undertakes measures to foster young children’s creativity through Project-based learning and Maker Space, where they can work with resources to investigate, discover and solve problems. Under this curriculum, the young learners will be given opportunities to recognize and label their emotions through awareness activities, to identify, regulate and manage their emotions. They will develop the capacity to be reflective, thoughtful, mindful, and self-aware.
Physical Well-being includes fine motor and gross motor development. Children will engage in activities such as threading beads, puzzles, sorting, etc. that will provide opportunities for hands-on reinforcement of concepts and skills that have been introduced in a whole group setting. Active play is important for health and wellbeing and for the development of emotional, social, language and thinking skills and leads to gross motor development –balance and laterality and eye-foot coordination.
