By Sanjay Maurya
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country at 9 a.m. on Friday. The prime minister has made a remarkable U-turn, deciding to revoke all three agricultural reform measures that have witnessed almost a year of enormous farmer demonstrations. He stated that the decision would be made by his cabinet next month.
The prime minister, speaking to the country on Guru Nanak Jayanti, said the three laws were for the benefit of farmers, but that despite our best efforts, we couldn’t convince a segment of farmers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I did everything I could to help farmers. What I’m doing is for the greater good of the country. With your blessings, I never skipped a beat in my diligent efforts. Today, I pledge to work even harder so that your goals, and the nation’s dreams, can come true.”
All three agricultural laws have been agreed to be repealed. In the parliament session that begins at the end of this month, we will begin the constitutional process to abolish all three laws, Modi added. However, President Ram Nath Kovind gave his approval to three measures enacted by the Parliament in September.
