Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 11 new Government Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu, as well as the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai, today (January 12, 2022).
The new Medical Colleges will be formed in the following districts during the virtual event, which will begin at 4 p.m.: Virudhunagar, Namakkal, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram, and Krishnagiri.
PM Modi said the new medical institutions will enhance health infrastructure and deliver affordable healthcare to the people of Tamil Nadu.
These are being built at a cost of around INR 4,000 crore, of which the central government is providing around INR 2,145 crore, and the rest by the Tamil Nadu government.
The new medical colleges, which would have a total capacity of 1,450 seats, will be built under the Centrally Sponsored programme of ‘Establishing of New Medical Colleges Attached with Existing District/Referral Hospitals.’ Medical colleges are built under the programme in regions where neither a government nor a private medical college exists.
The Union Government is entirely funding the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai, which costs INR 24 crore. A large library, an e-library, lecture rooms, and a multimedia hall are available on the new campus. CICT will relocate to a new three-story facility after previously operating out of a rented structure.
The Prime Minister’s goal to safeguard and preserve Indian history and promote classical languages is reflected in the building of a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai, according to the PMO.
CICT, an autonomous agency within the Union Ministry of Education, is working to promote classical Tamil by doing studies to demonstrate the language’s ancientness and distinctiveness. Over 45,000 old Tamil books are housed in the institute library. It also intends to translate and publish ‘Thirukkural’ in 100 other languages, both Indian and international.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also use video conferencing to inaugurate the 25th National Youth Festival in Puducherry at 11 a.m. The day is marked as National Youth Day since it is the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
