International flights were authorized to resume operations on December 15 after it was cleared by the aviation regulator earlier in November.
The competent authority has decided to prolong the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India until 2359 hours (January 31, 2022), the aviation regulator said in a circular released on Thursday.
India’s Omicron Tally
In partial modification of circular dated November 26, 2021, the competent authority has decided to prolong the suspension of Scheduled International Commercial Passenger Services to/from India till 2359 hours IST on January 31, 2022. This suspension does not apply to foreign all-cargo operations or flights that have been specially cleared by the DGCA, according to the official circular. However, the competent authorities may authorize International Scheduled flights on chosen routes on a case-by-case basis, it said.
Due to Omicron’s fear, the Union home ministry indicated that the government will reassess the decision to resume scheduled commercial international passenger operations on December 15th.
The United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Bhutan, and France are among the 32 nations with whom India has inked air transport bubble agreements. Switzerland is the most recent country with whom an agreement has been reached.
According to government sources, top officials from the Health Ministry notified a parliamentary panel on Thursday (9th December 2021) that there are 23 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and authorities are actively monitoring the situation. Officials told the panel in the presentation that Maharashtra tops the list with ten cases, followed by Rajasthan with nine, and that there are 2303 cases of Omicron variation worldwide.
Meanwhile, the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 has sent shockwaves across the world. Not only have many nations imposed new travel regulations, but some Indian states have also issued revised travel advisories. Before boarding a flight to Mumbai, the Maharashtra state government has required that all overseas travelers give information on their travel history for the previous 15 days. The government of Karnataka has stated that all overseas visitors coming into the state would be required to take an obligatory RT-PCR test and will be subjected to seven-day home quarantine.
