Registration on CoWIN not compulsory for the COVID-19 vaccine

“Pre-registration for vaccination via online registration and previous appointment scheduling is not required to get vaccination services. Anyone above the age of 18 can go to the nearest vaccination center, where a vaccinator will perform on-site registration and vaccination in the same visit. This is also popularly known as ‘walk-ins’,” said the ministry.

Beneficiaries in the rural area and those living in urban slums can also be mobilized by facilitators such as health professionals or ASHAs for on-site registration and vaccination at nearby vaccination centers “According to the ministry.
All of these options have been made available, with a focus on rural areas. According to the government, 16.45 crore (58%) of the 28.36 crore beneficiaries registered on Cowin were enrolled in the on-site method as of June 13.

It went on to explain that 19.84 crore vaccination doses (almost 80%) of the total 24.84 crore vaccination doses registered on Co-WIN till June 13 were administered through on-site registrations.
On January 16, this year, India began the world’s biggest vaccination campaign against Covid-19. According to the Health Ministry’s dashboard, the country has now administered a total of 25.9 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccinations.
According to the Ministry of Health, out of the total 69,995 vaccination facilities designated as rural or urban by states on Co-WIN, 49,883 vaccination facilities, or 71%, are situated in rural areas.
