Hospitals asked to reserve beds amid rising Dengue cases in Delhi
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday (October 11) said that amid rising dengue cases, the Delhi government has asked all hospitals in the city to ensure that no patient is denied admission due to paucity of beds. Sisodia said the Delhi government has asked hospitals to reserve 10-15 percent beds for patients with vector-borne diseases.
“The government has put all hospitals in the national capital on alert and is monitoring the situation. Hospitals have been directed to reserve 10-15 percent of their beds for patients with vector-borne diseases and ensure that no patient is denied admission due to lack of beds,” Sisodia said.
He said the current weather conditions are conducive for the transmission of vector-borne diseases. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the number of dengue cases has increased sharply in the last two weeks, adding that there is no need to panic as all arrangements have been made to provide treatment to the patients in the hospitals. Sisodia said that the government has also advised the hospitals to use Covid-19 beds for accommodating VBD (Vector Borne Disease) patients.
According to the data of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), after the addition of new cases, now the number of cases in Delhi this year has reached 295. There have been 75 cases of dengue in Delhi only in September. Although there is still half a month of September left. Therefore, at the end of the month, the figure could be much higher. However, no dengue death has been recorded in the city so far. Apart from dengue, 63 cases of malaria and 14 cases of chikungunya have been reported so far this year.
There is no specific medicine or exact treatment available for dengue. Some home remedies can be very effective in this. So, drink more and more water. In extremely severe cases, the patient should be given electrolyte supplements. In some cases, it is also treated through blood pressure monitoring and blood transfusion. Do not take any medicine without a doctor’s advice.
The most common symptom of dengue is fever with any of the following:
- Headache
- Muscle, bone, or joint pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Pain behind the eyes
- Swollen glands
- Rash
