Joyful tears: Shafali Verma gets emotional after historic U-19 T20 World Cup win!
January 29, 2023, marks another glorious chapter in Indian cricket history as the Shafali Verma-led Under-19 women’s team beat England by seven wickets to win the inaugural edition of the Under-19 T20 World Cup.
Shefali Verma had a big smile on her face when she arrived for the presentation ceremony after the match, but she was struggling to control her emotions. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she wiped them away while still smiling with joy on her face.
“The way all the girls are performing and backing each other, so happy. Incredible feeling. Thanks to the staff, the way they have been backing us every day and telling us that we are here for the cup and because of them we are here. All thanks to them,” Shafali said at the post-match presentation.

Shafali finished as the third-highest run-scorer of the tournament. She scored 172 runs in seven matches at an average of 24.57, including a half-century.
The Indian bowling unit played a key role in this victory, as they managed to prevent the England batsmen from building any partnerships.
Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced INR 5 crore cash reward for Team India.

After being put in to bat first, England was bowled out for 68 in 17.1 overs. India chased down the target with six overs to spare.
