THE WRITTENLYHUB STORY
Redefining the start-up culture, one step at a time
What started with a team of two college students in a dorm room has marvelously transitioned into a Next Gen startup in the last year.
Driven by their passion to pursue something beyond the mainstream, Astha Verma and Saksham Gogia tapped into their creativity to write content for a few clients. But their small initiative quickly picked pace with more clients bringing a greater influx of work—ultimately, the team of two multiplied.
Perhaps the most defining phase in the two co-founders’ journey was their stint in the corporate world. Working at a major MNC, both Astha and Saksham realized how a big shot enterprise restricts an individual to the 9-to-5 routine and reduces their personality to their designation. Geared with the idea of not limiting themselves to the corporate regime, the co-founders focused their efforts on scaling their team. This was when WrittenlyHub came to life.
CREATING A ROBUST FOUNDATION
From sourcing the best talent, taking interviews, and onboarding the new hires, to documenting the entire process, the two did everything to create a team of rockstars. But their interactions with so many young professionals made it clear as daylight that flexibility is the key to a well-functioning, productive team.
Ever since, flexibility has played an instrumental role in WrittenlyHub’s culture—symbolic of the company’s mission to deconstruct the 9-to-5 routine. The company offers every member the liberty to work at their own pace when they are at their productive best.
Astha Verma, the company CEO, says, “Our time in the corporate world offered us a bigger perspective—that most companies treat employees as cogs in the wheel. We wanted to eliminate that entire framework and create an environment that empowers young professionals to thrive.”
NURTURING EMPATHY AND FREEDOM
With a talented team in place and exponential expansion on the cards, WrittenlyHub has been on an upward trajectory of growth since 2020.
When asked about the ways in which they have embraced empathy, the company’s COO, Shreelekha Singh highlighted how the senior leadership has always heard and prioritized associates’ grievances. Modifying their flexible leave schedule to meet the associates’ needs best exemplifies this resolve to keep the associates happy and healthy. She shed light on another crucial change on these lines when they brought into action an elaborate framework for appraisals and increments—a rarity in bootstrapped startups—to offer associates the monetary due for their work.
BUILDING A LIFELONG BOND
Together with imbuing empathy in the culture, the WH team has also created a vibrant personality to call themselves ‘a friendly neighborhood workplace’.
Right from the early days of the startup, the co-founders have emphasized the importance of building a close-knit team that functions like a family, and the company’s HR department has stood true to this goal in more ways than one—from hosting fun team meets every month to making watercooler banter every now and then. This
friendly and youthful character is also reflected in HR’s communication within the team and to everyone approaching them.
Upon asking about how the company manages to keep the spirits high, their HR Manager, Shruti Ganesan said,
“A tense atmosphere isn’t conducive for work—where you spend 40% of your day. There’s a significant difference in attitude when one is working with the company and not for. We radiate positivity, energy, and motivation to push people to work for themselves and with us to scale heights together. Energy is contagious!”
The company supports its associates by recognizing their contributions through the “top performer of the month” awards. This recognition not only motivates every member to do better but also gives them the validation they deserve. Besides, the virtual ‘Wall of Fame’—a place to applaud every member for their amazing work—is another source of encouragement for the associates!
PLACING A WAGER ON THEIR DREAMS
Perhaps the most pivotal driving factor in WrittenlyHub’s journey so far has been the team’s collective ability to take risks. These young and aspiring professionals have never limited themselves to the tried and tested ways of running a business. Fueled by their passion, they have been scaling higher through calculated risks.
In the words of the company’s Managing Director, Saksham Gogia,
“Life is like a game. Deny it and you’re already sidelined. And the ultimate dream is to enjoy work so much that it feels like playing.”
A DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE AVENUE
A engineers-turned-entrepreneurs, both Astha and Saksham have always believed in giving a fair chance to talented individuals without any hiring bias. By that token, WrittenlyHub has become a platform for anyone to scale their career—whether you’re from a tier 3 city or are still studying in school.
The company’s Business Development Manager, Dipanjan Hazra shared his take on the company’s diverse and inclusive culture,
“I have met some of the most incredibly talented people at WrittenlyHub. I feel it’s incredible how the company manages to find, hire, and retain such skilled individuals. But I attribute this entirely to the team’s supportive and understanding culture.”
More importantly, the team has an impressive gender ratio with a female majority that speaks of its diverse culture. The team prides itself on being one of the very start-ups in India to give female professionals the opportunity and support to scale their careers.
TO BIGGER AND BETTER MILESTONES
WrittenlyHub has now completed a year on its mission to create a caring and associate-centric workplace. The team hopes to move forward with the same spirit and carve an even more rewarding culture to find a special place in its associates’ individual careers!
