Byte on Friday recorded as the No. 1 free iPhone app on the U.S. Apple Store. ByteDance launched their latest app, TikTok, that somehow quickly became a popular app in the world of creating and sharing online videos. Just over a year passing, the company announced its plans to merge with another iconic app musical.ly, which is a similar app that became popular for the lip-sync videos it spawned.
Byte, Created by Dom Hofmann, reboots the deprecated Vine video-sharing service, which he co-founded in the mid-summer of 2012 and sold to Twitter Inc. later that year. Hereby, Byte ended to be No. 1 free iPhone app on the U.S. App Store on Friday and is still in the top spot, Randy Nelson, the research firm Sensor Tower declared. Ultimately, the U.S., Byte is also the top free iOS app in big countries like Canada and ranks in the top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, Norway and the U.K. If we talk about Android’s Play Store then it is sixth among free apps in the U.S.
Byte as a new app on social media may have literally just been born like an infant yesterday, but its popularity and content are already steadily flowing onto the six-second looping sequel to the app Vine. Byte creator Dom Hofmann was actually a co-creator of the app Vine, and when the former died in 2016, the new model has a similar product design and community.
From that pile has emerged the first Byte trend in the USA’s apple store and Byte not only is TikTok backed by a $75 billion company but also become one of the fastest-growing social media platforms of all time in states. On the other hand, Byte users are responding to the competition in a sarcastic reactionary way by making fun of TikTok dance trends and chastising those who prefer the short video-sharing app to its predecessor.
