Twitter becomes the first social media company to allow ‘Cannabis’ ads
Twitter has become the first social media platform to allow cannabis companies to market their brands in the United States. The company said it will allow cannabis companies to advertise as long as they have the proper license, undergo its multi-stage approval process, target only jurisdictions where they are licensed to operate, and do not target people under the age of 21.

According to Twitter, the relaxation of their policy is intended to provide more avenues for “responsible cannabis marketing.”
“We permit approved Cannabis (including CBD– cannabinoids) advertisers to target the United States” provided a slew of conditions are met, Twitter said on its website under the heading, “Drugs and drug paraphernalia.”
While Twitter previously only allowed advertising of hemp-derived CBD topical products, other social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok continue to adhere to a “no cannabis advertising policy” as cannabis remains illegal in the US at the federal level.
What does the new ad policy say?
In the United States, the advertisements can’t promote or offer the sale of cannabis or CBD directly, except for topical, non-ingestible, hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3 percent of THC concentration specified by government regulations.
Companies and brands can’t use any sportsperson, character, celebrity, or image/icon that might appeal to minors. No minors or pregnant women can be used in advertising and there must not be any claims of health benefits or any false or misleading claims.
Cannabis: Understanding the Basics of a Psychoactive Drug
Cannabis is a psychoactive drug that comes from the cannabis plant. It is also known by various other names, including marijuana, weed, and pot. Cannabis contains over 100 chemical compounds, including THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), which are responsible for its effects on the body.
THC is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis, which means it can alter a person’s state of mind, and it is what produces the “high” feeling associated with marijuana use. CBD, on the other hand, does not have psychoactive effects and is believed to have therapeutic properties, such as pain relief and anti-anxiety effects.
Cannabis can be consumed in several forms, including smoking, vaporizing, edibles, and oils. The use of cannabis is a controversial topic, and its legal status varies depending on the country and state. Some jurisdictions have legalized cannabis for medicinal or recreational use, while others have not.
