Umran Malik story: Son of a vegetable seller makes India proud
Today Umran Malik is known by many of us and he has become a sensation name in a short period because of his hard work, dedication and his ability to play like a master with the ball. Umran Malik is an Indian right-arm fast bowler and on Sunday he surprised the cricketing world as a pacer of Sunrisers Hyderabad by bowling 151kph which is the fastest delivery bowled by an Indian in his debut Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Dubai.
He belongs to a rare breed of Indian fast bowler who manages to give 10 wickets in just seven games in IPL 2021. Malik is selected in IPL as the result of his devotion to work which he practices every day without any break just like a dedicated cricketer.

His success story starts when he took the first step toward Dubai from Sunjwan village Earlier Malik lives in the Gujjar Nagar locality of Jammu city and belongs to Sunjwan village in the same city. His father Abdul Rashid sells vegetables and fruits at Seedhi Chowk in Jammu city, his mother and two elder sisters, were all supportive of his passion.
Umran started to play cricket in his village at a very young age without any proper tools, equipment or training he used to play in school and after coming from school would leave the bag at home and go to the playground to play cricket in the evening Rashid, father of Malik said he never stopped him from playing cricket but want him to do little studies too and pay attention in studies as well and also buy necessary equipment for him so he can be better at playing cricket. Umran started to play with the leather ball just a few years before when he was 18 as the part of Jammu and Kashmir under-19 Squad.
In the practice session, the Behar trophy stunned everyone just of his bowling pattern which was so fast as they come to visit him in Vaishno Devi Mandir said Malik and they started to approach him when they first see him bowling in nets on a cement wicket and asked him why you are not playing in matches and then Selector give Malik a match. This is the first when Malik realized that he can do much better than before and can make everyone proud around him so he decided to work on his talent and starts polishing it.
At the age of 17, he started playing in competitive tennis-ball tournaments in Jammu in the evening and in every tournament he was surrounded by a huge crowd because of his smart playing he stole the spotlight of the competition. Every team who are playing wants him in their side said by Raman Thaploo who is a J&K cricket player. In his very first local cricket match he made some huge hit shot of sixes in the year 2017 and acquired a nick name of ‘Ghajini’ from local peoples of that area because of the hit Bollywood movie of Amir Khan’s and after that Malik friend suggested him to go to a coach and started to improve or enhance his skills.
He has an extraordinary talent as a fast bowler and has every eligibility that is required to become the highest level of bowler. At the age of 21, he already started to represent Jammu and Kashmir in the prestigious Vijay Hazare one day and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournaments. Malik made his entry in T20 cricket on 18 January this year in support of Jammu and Kashmir in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Also, he made his debut entry in the list of a Cricket on 27 February 2021 in the Vijay Hazare Tournament playing for the team of Jammu and Kashmir.
On 24 September Sunrisers Hyderabad takes Umran Malik as a short term replacement in the place of T Natarajan as Natarajan tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic. After regulation 6.1 (C ) is applied all the IPL teams are permitted to play as short term replacement players and that’s why Malik is permitted to join the team as a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad until the original squad member is allowed to re-enter the team in the secure environment.
So Malik is only part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team until Natarajan recovers from the coronavirus and also he becomes the 4th cricketer from J&K to play in IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai on Sunday. Umran is the second cricketer from Jammu city to play in this league. The two-player Malik and Abdul Samad for the first time from Jammu and Kashmir played together for the same team in this league. Abdul Samad is an all-rounder and an established player of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.
Malik after bowling at the speed of 150Kph in his very first over, repeated it a couple of times but he didn’t check his pace before playing in IPL and thought of bowling around a range of 140- 145Kph maximum. But Performing well in the first match of IPL was a special moment for him too. In the next game, Malik plays against Royal Challengers and bowling at the speed of the second-fastest delivery in IPL 2021 after this Virat Kohli himself talks in support of youngsters that when you see talent like Malik you can’t take your eyes off them.
Malik feels very proud after listening to Virat Kohli’s words and now the world also is talking about him whom no one knows a day before. After reaching home Malik is welcomed by his relatives and also congratulate him. After seeing his bowling not only his family but the whole of Jammu city and India feels very happy about his outstanding performance in IPL. His hard work paid off said Malik’s father Rashid. His first dream is to see his team wins the world cup and soon it will happen as said by Malik.
