WhatsApp to bring ‘edit sent messages’ capability soon
WhatsApp is expected to launch a long-awaited feature soon, as the messaging app was testing the edit button on the beta version of the app. Currently, WhatsApp does not have a dedicated editing option. Text once sent can only be deleted, not edited, but the upcoming feature can make editing possible after sending the text.

- Initial release – January 2009; 13 years ago
- Available in – 40 (iOS) and 60 (Android) [11] languages
The editing feature news was announced by Wabetainfo, the website that tracks all WhatsApp-related updates, Wabetainfo, was the first platform to notice this function.
According to a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is working on allowing users to edit text messages in the WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, and desktop. Screenshots shared in the report show that the messaging platform started working on this feature 5 years ago. Its further added that in order to edit the text, you need to select the text and select the edit option that pops up with Copy and Forward.
You can use this tool to correct typos or other problems in delivered text messages. You will not be able to remove the edited text, unlike regular text messages. The screenshot was acquired from the Android WhatsApp beta. It is also scheduled to be released for iOS and Desktop. “Probably there won’t be an edit history to check previous versions of modified messages,” according to the report, “but since this feature is under development, their intentions may change before the feature is released.”
Reports also emerged last month that the Meta-owned messaging app also worked on a feature where users can silently exit their groups. Other members of the group will not be aware of their departure thanks to this function. Only users who have left their groups, as well as group admins, will be notified once this option is available.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on offering more features to WhatsApp Business accounts with WhatsApp premium subscription plans. For business accounts, the WhatsApp Premium membership service will allow up to ten devices to be linked to the same account.
