Yahoo mail to officially stop service in China from Today

Yahoo previously announced that users in mainland China will be unable to access Yahoo’s products and services from November 1, 2021. However, very few services like mailboxes are still available. Yahoo Mail officially announced that its services in mainland China will be shut down on February 28. Yahoo Mail will no longer be able to receive or send emails in mainland China after February 28.
Following the lead of other major tech companies such as Google and Microsoft, Yahoo also announced back in November that it would be existing in China due to increased scrutiny from the Communist government over how much data these companies could collect.

As regulations tighten, firms maintaining operations in China should be aware of the laws the government wants them to follow. In mainland China, many of Yahoo’s products and services are now unavailable. With operations in 24 countries and regions, Yahoo used to be the world’s first portal search website. However, it was quickly surpassed by Google in the late 1990s. The China Yahoo website was started in September 1999, and it was completely bought by Alibaba Group in August 2005. Now, Yahoo no longer sees China as ripe for investment or expansion opportunities. Chinese visitors to Yahoo’s website will now be greeted with a message saying their content is not available.
