BCCI new policy: Now equal match fees for men & women cricketers
Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Thursday (October 27) announced that India’s women cricketers will get the same match fees as their male counterparts as the board takes the first step towards tackling discrimination. In a series of tweets, Jay Shah announced that the Indian Cricket Board is implementing a pay equity policy for its contracted women cricketers.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah wrote on his Twitter handle, “I am delighted to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted BCCI Women Cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricketโ.
“Women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 Lakh), ODI (INR 6 Lakh), T20I (INR 3 Lakh).Pay equity was my commitment to our women players and I thank the Apex Council for their support,” he said.

At the recently concluded BCCI AGM, it was confirmed that the first season of the women’s IPL will be played in 2023. The administrators decided to implement the pay equity policy a few days after the BCCI AGM.
The cricket world has welcomed this move. India’s star cricketer Mithali Raj said, ‘This is a historic step. Equal match fees and women’s IPL are steps to take women’s cricket to where men’s cricket is today. Indian women’s cricket will benefit from the BCCI’s historic decision. It will inspire many aspiring cricketers to play on a professional level. The Indian women’s cricket team won the silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and reached the final of the T20 World Cup in 2020.
Earlier, the New Zealand Cricket Board announced a similar decision that the women’s national team would receive the same match fees as the men, while Cricket Australia (CA) is also working to address gender inequality.
