Jettwings Airways, First Airline of Northeast India, May Start Operations from October

Jettwings Airways, the newest player in the aviation industry, has announced that it has received the no objection certificate (NOC) to operate Scheduled Commuter Air Transport Services in the country. Their goal is to commence flights from October 2023.
Based in Guwahati, the airline aims to provide regional connectivity to passengers, primarily in the Northeast and eastern regions, under the government’s UDAN scheme. This makes Jettwings the first-ever company from the Northeast region to venture into airline operations in the country.
Once they obtain all the necessary regulatory approvals and an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Jettwings Airways plans to introduce a fleet of modern aircraft, including turbofan and turbo-propelled ones. These aircraft will facilitate premium economy services for regional travel.
Jettwings Airways has been established with a vision to revolutionize regional connectivity by delivering superior service, comfort, and convenience to passengers. The government’s commitment to improving air connectivity through the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) has significantly enhanced trade in specific regions, spurred economic growth, and provided a significant boost to the tourism sector.
“We believe that under the UDAN scheme, we have a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the Northeast region by improving connectivity and creating new economic opportunities,” stated Sanjive Narain, Chairman of Jettwings Airways, during a press conference.
Mr. Narain mentioned that the company expects to receive two aircraft by October and will commence operations immediately upon their arrival. Furthermore, the company plans to lease at least five planes within a year.
Jettwings Airways stated that it will lease these aircraft from companies recommended by the government and has set aside INR 100 crore for the initial funding of the project.
Acknowledging the demand for reliable, efficient, and high-quality service in regional connectivity, Jettwings Airways has assembled a team of experienced aviation professionals. Additionally, they plan to introduce a loyalty program to reward frequent flyers.
“We will be working closely with the DGCA to ensure our readiness and complete the necessary formalities for Scheduled Commuter Airlines operations. Once we are granted the AOC, we are committed to becoming a reliable and sustainable airline deeply rooted in Northeast India, connecting unique yet significant destinations,” said Sanjay Aditya Singh, Co-founder, and CEO of Jettwings Airways. He emphasized the need for an airline born in the Northeast with a strong presence in India and expressed Jettwings Airways’ dedication to achieving this goal in the coming months as they prepare for takeoff.
