Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to attend the G20 Summit in Delhi on September 9 and 10. According to an official statement, he will deliver keynote addresses at the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference on the sidelines of the summit.
President Tinubu aims to attract global capital and promote foreign direct investments in Nigeria’s labor-intensive sectors for job creation and revenue expansion. He will also highlight Nigeria’s attractiveness as an investment destination, focusing on his cross-sectoral reform plan, the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The focus of the summit will be heavily predicated on the urgent need to attract foreign direct investment … and to ensure that we are able to mobilize private capital from around the world toward the development of Nigeria’s public infrastructure,” Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement.
“While Nigeria’s membership of the G-20 is desirable, the government has embarked on wide-ranging consultations with a view to ascertaining the benefits and risks of membership,” Ngelale said in a statement.
During the summit, President Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings with leaders from various countries to strengthen economic, trade, and investment partnerships. The theme of the G20 Summit is “One Earth-One Family-One Future,” emphasizing global unity in addressing humanity and planetary challenges.
While Nigeria considers G-20 membership, consultations are ongoing to assess the benefits and risks. The G20 comprises 19 countries and the European Union, with India assuming the G20 Presidency in December last year with the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
