In a recent announcement, CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed that Elon Musk’s social media platform, formerly known as Twitter but now referred to as X, is experimenting with new premium subscription plans. The existing X Premium or Twitter Blue subscription, priced at $8 per month, is set to undergo a significant transformation into three distinct categories: Basic, Standard, and Plus.
According to a report by Bloomberg, this strategic move is designed to tap into a wider user base and increase revenue by accommodating users who may not have been inclined to pay the full price for a premium subscription.
Elon Musk himself hinted at this development during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting that X would begin charging a nominal monthly fee from all users to combat the issue of automated bots plaguing the platform.
Notably, a recent analysis by a researcher using the Twitter app’s code, who goes by the handle @Aaronp613, revealed that the three subscription tiers might be distinguished by the number of advertisements shown to users. The breakdown is as follows: the X Premium Basic plan will display a full array of ads, the X Premium Standard version will present half the usual number of ads, and the X Premium Plus version will offer an ad-free experience.
Pricing Details for X Premium/Twitter Blue in India:
For Indian users, the Twitter Blue subscription is available at ₹900 per month for both Android and iOS devices, while web users can access it for ₹650 per month. An annual subscription option is also on the table, priced at ₹6,800 for web users. On iOS and Android devices in India, the annual subscription cost for X Premium stands at ₹9,400 per year.
Changes in Subscription represent X’s latest effort to diversify its revenue streams and enhance the user experience. As the platform continues to evolve under the leadership of Elon Musk, it will be intriguing to see how these new subscription plans impact its user base and financial performance.
