Akasa Air Thanks Jhunjhunwala, Promises to Perform and Serve the Nation
The first domestic scheduled airline that was introduced in India recently in nearly ten years is Akasa Air. Following the passing of the airline’s major investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala on Sunday(August 14), Akasa Air’s CEO Vinay Dube said that the company is well-capitalized, its growth is secure, and it has the resources to order additional aircraft.
With the death of renowned investor Jhunjhuwala, whose support alone had given the nation’s newest airline a boost, the airline’s future course will be closely scrutinised. In light of this, Dube expressed his gratitude to Jhunjhunwala on Wednesday for helping to bring in some of the best aviation professionals in the nation.
Vinay Dube, the company’s founder and CEO, said in a statement that the late investor “wanted us to have a top-notch leadership team that made all day-to-day decisions at the airline without having to fall back on him or any other investor.” He stated that Akasa Air will continue to add one new aircraft to its fleet every two weeks in an effort to allay any potential concerns about the airline’s future.
In fact, Akasa will be able to place an aircraft order in the next 18 months that will be significantly larger than our first thanks to the stability of our financial foundation. We can put it simply: Our growth is secure, he emphasised. On August 14, a week after Akasa Air’s first flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, the 62-year-old Jhunjhunwala passed away. He had been a passenger on that first flight.
“We received our third aircraft yesterday in Delhi, and it will soon be put into service on the Mumbai-Bengaluru sector. One new aircraft will be added to our fleet every two weeks as we expand it further. Although these are encouraging times in our journey, we at Akasa Air continue to be in deep sorrow over Mr. Jhunjhunwala’s passing. This is a profound personal loss for those of us at Akasa who got to know him and whose lives he touched, said Dube.
The airline will always be appreciative of the ace investor, Dube continued. “Akasa Air is a well-capitalized airline with the financial means to induct 72 aircraft over the next five years, for which we will always be grateful,” he said. “Thanks in no small part to Mr. Jhunjhunwala, for whom we appreciate his contributions greatly. Dube added that Akasa Air will strive to operate an exceptional airline in order to honour Jhunjhunwala’s legacy, values, and faith in us.
“Jhunjhunwala recognised India’s potential as one of the aviation markets with the fastest rate of growth in the world, with unmatched potential and decades of development ahead of us. “He was a true believer in India’s potential and saw Akasa Air serving our nation by constructing the transportation links that will support India’s ongoing economic transformation,” the source continued.
After being significantly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, the nation’s airline industry is presently making a slow recovery. A wheelchair-bound Jhunjhunwala was all praise for the civil aviation ministry officials at the inaugural ceremony of Akasa Air’s first flight last Sunday at the Mumbai airport, where they had worked together to get the airline off the ground.
“… nowhere in the world is an airline conceived and born in 12 months. Normally, a child is born in 9 months, we took 12 months,”During the ceremony, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation, virtually signalled the start of the first flight by making the statement.. The day was a pivotal one in Indian civil aviation history, according to the minister.
