Bill Gates Lauds India’s Phenomenal Development: A Nation Poised for a Bright Future
Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has hailed India’s progress in areas such as health, development, and climate and said the country is showing what is possible when investment is made in innovation.

He also lauded India’s ability to manufacture safe, effective, and affordable vaccines, which saved millions of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and prevented other diseases worldwide. Gates, who is co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent trip to India, discussing the development of COVID-19 vaccines and investment in India’s health systems.
Gates stated that India’s public health system has delivered more than 2.2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and its Co-WIN open-source platform has enabled people to schedule vaccine appointments and receive digital certifications for those who were vaccinated. The philanthropist highlighted India’s financial inclusion policies, investing in a digital ID system (Aadhaar) and creating innovative platforms for digital banking, which enabled emergency digital payments to 300 million people, including 200 million women, during the pandemic.
Gates praised India’s Gati Shakti program, which digitally connects 16 ministries, including rail and roads, and accelerates the work of Indian scientists and engineers, citing it as a great example of how digital technology can help governments work better. He discussed India’s G20 presidency this year with Modi and added that it’s an excellent opportunity to highlight how innovations developed in the country can benefit the world and help other countries adopt them.
Gates expressed optimism about India’s progress in health, development, and climate, stating that the country is demonstrating what is possible when we invest in innovation. He hopes India will continue this progress and share its innovations with the world. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supports these efforts, with a high priority on spreading India’s digital ID and payments systems to other places.
