Clues about GTA 6 Release Date Found in Take-Two Interactive’s Earnings Report

According to the latest annual financial report from Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 6 might be released as early as next year. The company has set ambitious targets for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, aiming to achieve over $8 billion in net bookings through the launch of groundbreaking titles. Although not explicitly mentioned, it is strongly suggested that GTA 6 could be the driving force behind these growth ambitions, as it is difficult to imagine any other franchise achieving similar success for the company.
In the previous fiscal year, Take-Two’s net bookings reached $5.3 billion, largely due to the acquisition of mobile gaming company Zynga in early 2022. Before that, the company’s annual net bookings were reportedly around $3 billion. To meet its recent targets for fiscal years 2025-26, Take-Two would need to make significant acquisitions, release twice as many titles, or deliver one of the most highly anticipated franchise sequels of all time, such as GTA 6. By comparison, Grand Theft Auto V has sold a remarkable 180 million copies since its release in 2013.
Take-Two stated in its earnings report, “For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success.” The company expects to enter a new era in fiscal year 2025 with the launch of several groundbreaking titles, setting new industry standards and generating over $8 billion in net bookings and over $1 billion in adjusted unrestricted operating cash flow. They plan to sustain this momentum and achieve even higher levels of operating results in fiscal year 2026 and beyond.
GTA 6, revealed by Rockstar Games last year, has attracted significant social media attention. The game experienced a data breach, which included leaked gameplay videos. In September, the leak occurred, unveiling footage of GTA 6 gameplay. An individual using the name ‘teapotuberhacker’ uploaded more than 90 videos showcasing two playable characters, Lucia and Jason.
This leak supported previous claims about the game having a female protagonist. Rockstar Games confirmed the authenticity of the leak, while Take-Two downplayed its impact, considering it more of an “emotional matter” than a business concern. Authorities detained a 17-year-old from Oxfordshire, England, on suspicion of hacking, connecting the individual to the hacker group ‘Laspus$,’ which was allegedly responsible for the Uber hacks as well.
In addition to GTA 6, Take-Two has an exciting lineup of upcoming releases. This includes the next game from BioShock developer Ken Levine called Judas, a new title from Hangar 13 in the Mafia series, another BioShock entry, and their annual sports game lineup. Meanwhile, the company continues to thrive on the sales of GTA V, its active online component, and Red Dead Redemption 2, which has sold over 53 million copies.
