Sandhu said in a tweet, “He recognized the Chamber for rapid response and mobilizing resources to help the Indian business community challenge India Covid-19.” For the past few days, the US Chamber of Commerce has coordinated industry associations and the US government to deliver vital medical supplies to India.
Sandhu said that he had an important conversation with Albert Borla, Pfizer’s CEO. The Ambassador highlighted the decisions of the Government of India to facilitate the import of vaccines to those already approved in other nations and to expedite emergency approvals.
The private sector sends significant additional shipments of medical equipment. The US House previously asked the Biden government to release unused doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for use in India.
The ambassador said that two US aircraft carrying relief supplies related to oxygen equipment and other COVIDs were en route to India. Sandhu tweeted, “(President Joseph Robinette Biden). To stand with India in this challenging time.”
Walmart CEO Doe McMillian had a conversation with Sandhu a day earlier. “My heart breaks with our friends and colleagues across India as they grapple with the devastating increase in epidemic numbers,” McMillian said in a statement.
Walmart is working diligently to provide oxygen and vital equipment to communities across the country. FedEx also released a statement that it continues its support for the fight against COVID-19 and plans to send a special aircraft with significant support to thousands of oxygen concentrations and healthcare facilities in India.
