All transportation documents, including existing driver’s licences and permits, have been extended by the Delhi government till November 30. According to Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, the decision was made to address common people’s concerns, particularly during the Covid time, and to avoid overcrowding at zonal offices. According to an official, the transportation department will issue the required orders for the extension soon.
The Delhi government has recently taken several efforts to prevent individuals from gathering at zonal offices for license-related inquiries and activities. So, as a part of this effort, Delhi residents will soon be able to get their vehicles documents at the door, as most transportation services will be placed under the online system’s umbrella. According to the department of transportation, more than 78 percent of applicants for the e-learning licence service obtained their learner’s licence at home. The Delhi government also intends to include 88 Delhi University colleges in the licencing process, which would be available for students as well.
According to the notice, evidence from various field offices indicates that a large number of applicants are visiting for various services as the validity of various papers is set to expire on September 30, 2021. The Minister instructed the officials in his presence to speed up the solution of technical difficulties, pending cases, and complaints regarding faceless services.
Vehicle owners must have current insurance and pollution under control (PUC) certifications, according to a government notice. Since insurance can be renewed online, and there are many PUC centres, these documents can be renewed easily, it further said.
The government has also developed the DigiLocker platform or the mParivahan mobile app to make the entire system more efficient and accessible. After installing it, vehicles owners will no longer be required to carry their License (DL) and Registration Certificate (RC) with them at all times. Instead, they can give the traffic police or the transportation department a soft copy of these documents.
