“For the convenience of the passengers, Indian Railways has decided to increase the limit of booking maximum 6 tickets in a month to 12 tickets by a user ID which is not Aadhaar linked and the limit of booking maximum 12 tickets in a month to 24 tickets by a user ID which is Aadhaar linked and that one of the passengers in the ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar,” the ministry said in a statement. This will be beneficial for frequent travellers as well as those who use the same account to book rail tickets for family members, according to officials.
The Ministry of Railways recently encouraged travellers not to travel with excess baggage in trains via its official Twitter account. The ministry remarked in a tweet that travelling with additional luggage reduces the fun of the journey by half! Carry as little luggage as possible when travelling by train. If you have extra luggage, go to the parcel office and book it. IRCTC announced a new policy, which says that like air travel, rail passengers will also have to pay for carrying extra baggage.
In AC first class, up to 70 kg is allowed for free, and for AC 2-Tier, the limit is 50 kg. In AC 3-tier sleeper, AC chair car, and the sleeper class, carrying baggage up to 40 kg is permitted. For 2-class, the limit is up to 25 kgs. The minimum charge for luggage is INR 30.
