Kay Legal & Associates LLP
Changing The Working Lawfully
By Sandhya Agrawal
The practice of law is a business as well as a profession. A law firm is a corporate organisation founded to engage in the practice of law by one or more lawyers. A law firm’s primary service is to counsel clients (individuals or corporations) on their legal rights and obligations and to represent clients in civil or criminal proceedings, business transactions, and other matters in which legal advice and additional assistance are required. One such Firm is Kay Legal & Associates LLP, based in Mumbai, New Delhi & Pune.
As one of the top firms for Medico-Legal cases, specialising in Corporate Advisory and Medical Legislation, Kay Legal & Associates has been recommended and has also been proposed as a Leading Firm in the fields of Civil, Corporate and White-Collar Litigation. The Firm also provides Indian and International Sector with end-to-end corporate and sector legal strategy advice.

The Incorporation Of The Brand
In 2011, the two most experienced individuals in their respective fields agreed to combine their expertise to make Kay Legal. The concept behind its creation was to provide expert services in every area of law, and the name of that umbrella was developed as Kay Legal.
The founding members at Kay Legal are Amit Karkhanis and Shivani Shah.. Amit has more than 21 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Mumbai and a Master’s Degree in International Trade Law from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Meanwhile, Shivani graduated from Mumbai University with B.Com and LLB. She is registered with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa and is a member of the Bombay Bar Association.
The Managing Partner, Abhijit Ranjan met at a conference in 2019 with founding partners and joined them after a conversation on a new venture.
He proved to be an asset to the Firm, and in April 2020, apart from being the driving force behind the Firm’s two most important teams, he became the Managing Partner.
The Firm provides its clients with a wide variety of consulting services and is also available to provide them with the experience at all times, which reaffirms their trust in the expert team.
It takes a specific skill-set to be an entrepreneur. Mr Abhijit claims that determination, hard work, punctuality and the ability to go the extra mile are the necessary qualities that one must possess to be an entrepreneur. He believes that, at any stage of life, these attributes can be embraced or acquired by a person. However, one could find it very difficult to survive as an entrepreneur in the world in the absence of the skill set as described above.

As adaptable, trustworthy, conscientious, resourceful and industrious, Kay Legal describes itself. In the area of General Corporate Consulting, IPR & Medico-Legal, the Firm has a comprehensive practice, which makes it distinct from its rivals.
Kay Legal & Associates’ current clientele is spread through various sectors such as hospitals, consulting doctors, health care and pharmaceuticals, real estate and infrastructure, insurance, start-ups, banks, NBFC, IT and e-commerce, media, civil & corporate litigation including restitution cases, commercial litigation and arbitration, compliance with labour law, corporate legal counselling and advice including the drafting of surrogacy agreements, intellectual property rights, and white-collar crimes.
The members of their team have been handpicked by Kay Legal to fit into the respective profiles and ensure that their team members evolve individually, for which the organisation assigns them tasks that will help them grow as professionals.
The courts were initially closed because of the pandemic, thereby creating considerable impediments to litigation. However, as soon as the Higher Courts decided to take up video conferencing, Kay Legal’s team kept up to date with all the numerous SOPs issued by the different courts and supported their clients by appearing before the courts on their behalf. Also, they have filed online cases adhering to the procedures laid down by various courts. Kay Legal proudly claims that, while operating from home, all of this was accomplished by their team.
Living By The Values
The core principles of this Firm revolve around offering the best legal service to consumers, being loyal to the profession, being reasonable. The Firm is assisted by strong beliefs that Kay Legal claims have made them what they are today. Client satisfaction, creativity, honesty, absolute commitment and collaboration are these values.
One of the main factors defining Kay Legal is its ability to adapt, as stated before. By introducing creative solutions such as working from home and flexible working hours, they have adapted and overcome the challenges generated by the pandemic, keeping in mind that the team’s morale was and will always be paramount. The organisation has further endeavoured to make all proceedings, typically on paper, available to the team in the form of soft copies of the same, by introducing a system for them to operate from home without any obstacles.
Developing a healthy culture that conforms to the mission and vision of the organisation will not only build business-wide harmony, a shared sense of purpose, and initiatives guided by a culture that produce the desired results; it will also improve productivity and performance significantly. A good, well-defined positive culture, in Abhijit’s opinion, enhances employee engagement, job satisfaction and well-being. Kay Legal’s development has been dramatically influenced by a high degree of confidence, professionalism, valuing the opinion of each other, all working in the same direction in their creative style to achieve the desired goals.
Achievements & Accolades for a law firm implies winning cases. Kay legal has a handful of such cases in the Bombay High Court with Trademark Passing Off Suit, CPNDT Writ Petition, Acquisition of Pharmanova Specialties Pvt. Ltd. by Maneesh Pharma, Kader Exports Pvt., POSH Enforcement. Ltd., and Shah’s Dental Serenity Medico-Legal Audit.
The pandemic gave rise to an unparalleled collection of concerns that were mostly unprepared for by the legal fraternity. Any of the steps Kay Legal took as an organisation is to put in place a framework for their staff to operate at ease from home. Besides, they made it a point to continue to serve their customers with the same commitment as before, if not more, during the pandemic. Through keeping their customers updated with the pandemic situation and all the various advisories and direction/notifications issued from time to time by the government, the Firm has managed to do so.
Kay Legal & Associates aim to create trust in their customers concerning their services, which they are proud of providing experience in and making themselves open to customers at all times, thereby giving them an edge over the rivals.
At last, Mr Abhijit says that the Kay Legal team has imagined that their business will expand exponentially in the coming years, with the current potential, and they will be a well-known brand recognised by the legal fraternity. He thinks that among all the consumers, the Firm has excellent potential and goodwill.
