Mumbai Travel Guidelines: three documents mandatory to carry during train journey
On the 11th of August, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) began the process of offline verification and issuing monthly passes to fully vaccinated people who will be able to board local trains beginning August 15.
An offline verification process for Covid-19 Final Vaccination (finished 14 days after the second dose) will begin on August 11 at 53 railway stations in the BMC jurisdiction area and a total of 109 railway stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, allowing citizens to travel in local trains and obtain Railway Monthly Passes. It will be operational in two sessions, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.
During train travel, three documents must be carried
People who want to travel by Mumbai local trains must present a hard copy of their vaccination certificate, as well as the original and a photocopy of their ID proofs, to the help desk at stations.
The vaccine certificate and a photocopy of the ID will be stamped once the support desk has verified the vaccination status. These must be provided when purchasing a monthly season ticket at the booking counter. Travelers must carry all three documents while traveling: a monthly permit, a stamped vaccination certificate, and a photo ID copy said an officer.
Citizens do not need to rush to the railway stations because the offline process of granting monthly season passes will continue seven days a week till further orders, according to BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.
The government is resuming train service in response to the problems faced by the working class in getting to work. According to a senior official, the goal of only providing monthly passes is to discourage people from taking unnecessary trips.
Officials stated that the SOP is only for the general public. Others who are already allowed to board local trains, such as healthcare workers, government employees, and frontline workers, can continue to travel, as usual, using their ID cards, and can purchase tickets daily.
