Words of Wisdom
“When you move your focus from competition to contribution, life becomes a celebration.” “We don’t try to defeat. Together we win.”
Significant Changes in the Ship Industry
Speed and space have changed, and technological advancements have simultaneously made things more straight forward and more intricate. Although social media has helped in many ways, while news national and international can reach us faster, the technology has made the communication easier, faster and more convenient also inexpensive, worldwide safety regulations and standards now require us to be on toes all the time.
As a result, Ship Managers’ needs to keep itself upgraded towards the changes globally. To follow such regulations keeping in mind the long-term benefits of all, the environment, the Life of living being at sea and Humans too, while ensuring that the owners of the Ships get good returns on their highly expensive assets keeping them secure and making good profits to encourage them to keep growing. This completes the cycle. “Together we Win”.
Aishwarya’s Take on the Local Shipping Industry
The potential is huge, considering that only 2–3% of global shipping comprises Indian companies. The problem lies with policymaking. We need a lot of new shipbuilding yards as it is highly technology as well as human indispensable industry, that can provide jobs for a lot of skilled and unskilled laborer’s as well as generate a lot of foreign investment and income.
In addition to international recognition in the shipping industry of the country (India) would enhance further. Even for coastal vessel needs, we have to look for ships and vessels from foreign waters; but, if we had these shipyards, we could help meet our own needs and many Big players as well small local business owners could profit by being able to obtain high quality ships and vessels for coastal trading Today, we have DG (shipping) order to scrap the Indian ships older than 20 years.
We do not have the vessels to full fill the current requirements. As such, we have foreign companies coming in with the vessels, of course, with collaboration with Indian operators. Still, the actual major revenue would be going out of the country. And in addition, this order is going to hurt the small shipowner’s business as they may not be able to get any replacement, and with such a shortage, the running cost would go higher as well as we would see lots of Jobs lost.
I strongly urge the decision-makers to, at the very least, listen to the big and small ship owners, operators and traders in order to find a long terms solution to the current crises that these ship owners, operators as well as traders would experience as a result of the DGS order of 13.1.2023 and, concurrently, to have a discussion and debate at the level of the parliament and some policy changes to happen to help all in many ways than just one.
Overcoming Challenges as an Entrepreneur
Like any business, NMMS has its share of obstacles! Shipping is global, so keeping up with the most recent international regulations, upgrading the internal system to reflect these updates, and keeping the workforce updated through educating them is important. Here, the main challenge is completing tasks accurately, precisely, and on a strict timeline.
R&D’s Contribution to NMMS Growth
A High-Tech IT team is part of the Organization, to get the most recent upgrade on global policy and regulation, this helps to get a better and early insight into the industry, which in turn enables them to identify faster earlier and easy solutions and contributes to steady growth.
Aside from using technology and social media to stay connected to one another globally, suppliers accruing policies, making them follow the latest technology to keep them upgraded with the upcoming inquires and a personal touch with each Supplier further helps them to keep the quantity, quality, while being cost effective.
A Glimpse of Women Leadership in the Current Business Ecosystem
Being a leader is always competitive, regardless of gender. Since women have traditionally relied on close male support—such as their father, brother, spouse, or son—for their social, emotional, and financial needs, it is crucial for women to sever these ties and take full responsibility for their wellness. According to Aishwarya, women are capable of providing the business with a fresher, more impacting perspective that is also more effective.
Women can make terrific mentors and communicators because they are more empathic than men. When they notice the shift, society can and will adopt a more accepting attitude. The decision to undertake something should not be influenced by familial or social pressure; therefore, I feel it should be true for all genders.
