Pakistan’s Punjab got its first Sikh Minister

For the first time after partition, Pakistan’s Punjab province got its first Sikh Minister. Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, 58 years, legislator from Punjab’s Narowal district, is also a three-time member in Pakistan’s Punjab provincial assembly.
Under the leadership of Mariam Nawaz (CM Punjab) from the newly elected government of PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League) in Punjab,Arora was anonymously made a Minister in the Mariam Nawaz government on Wednesday March 7, 2024. He can be seen taking oath at the Governor’s residence in Lahore.
Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora took oath as a member of Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab (Pakistan).

Some days ago, Ramesh Arora was also elected as the President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (PSGPC), and in 2023, he was elected as the “Ambassador at Large” for the Kartarpur corridor between India and Pakistan.
Arora’s family was among the few who decided to stay back in Pakistan instead of migrating to India, during partition. His grandfather on the request of his close friend made the decision to stay in Pakistan, Ramesh Arora mentions in his interview with The Indian Express.
He also mentioned in his speech that he would be working towards the development of minorities, which will not alone include Sikhs. Arora has a major hand in implementing the Sikh marriage Act 2017.
