Key Points on National Emblem on Parliament Building
- The national emblem is an adaption of the Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath (place located 10 kilometres north-east of Varanasi near the confluence of the Ganges and the Varuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh). The statue is a three-dimensional symbol depicting four lions, mounted backwards on a circular abacus. There is also a Dharma Chakra, a bull, and a horse beneath it.
- A senior official aware of the development said the concept and process of casting the national emblem on the roof of the new Parliament House have gone through eight different stages of preparation ranging from clay modeling and computer graphics to bronze casting and polishing.
- To take the emblem on the roof, it was divided into over 150 segments and assembled on the roof.
- “The work to assemble it started in April end. It took us nearly two months to complete the work,” said the CPWD official.
- The symbol is part of the new Parliament building project. The building, which is the highlight of the government’s Central Vista project, is being constructed by Tata Projects. The proposed four-storey building, spread over 13 acres, is expected to be completed by October.
Let us notify you that the new, state-of-the-art Parliament House has its foundation stone placed in December 2020 by Prime Minister Modi. A sizable Constitution Hall in the new Parliament House will provide an insight into the nation’s democratic history. There will also be a library and lounge for the parliamentarians. Additionally, there will be enough space for parking and dining.
