Reliance Jio to launch 4G enabled low-cost laptop under INR 15,000
According to reports, Reliance Jio will launch a budget laptop with an embedded 4G SIM card for under $184 (INR 15,000), aiming to replicate the success of its low-cost JioPhone in India’s highly price-sensitive market. The name of this laptop can be JioBook, which will attract a large number of users based on its affordable price.

The Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate has partnered with global giants Qualcomm (semiconductor company) and Microsoft for JioBook, with the former powering its computing chips based on technology from Arm Ltd, and the Windows OS maker providing support for some apps.
Reliance Jio has more than 42 crore customers in India. But Jio has not given any official information about the upcoming laptop at the moment. According to the reports, Jio will first make the new laptop available to enterprise customers. These will include schools and government institutions. After this, the laptop of Jio will be made available to other customers. According to reports, “Just as Jio Phone 4G shook the country in terms of technology, Jio Book is also preparing to revolutionize.”
Since the launch of the Jio Phone 4G last year, it has become the number one brand in India in terms of smartphones under $100. In the last three quarters, Jio Phone has accounted for 20 percent of India’s smartphone market under $100. JioBook sales are expected to reach millions by March next year, for which Jio has tied up with contract manufacturers Flex.
According to research firm IDC, total PC shipments in India stood at 14.8 million units last year, led by HP, Dell, and Lenovo. The laptop will run Jio’s own JioOS operating system and apps can be downloaded from the JioStore. Jio, which raised nearly $22 billion in 2020 from global investors such as KKR & Co Inc and Silver Lake, is credited with disrupting the world’s no. 2 mobile market when it introduced cheap 4G data options and free voice services in 2016, and later launched a 4G smartphone priced at just $81.
