According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, about 200 people die each year as a result of construction-related falls around the world and many others sustain life-threatening injuries leading to partial disability. As a result, government agencies are enforcing stringent regulations to prevent such heinous workplace injuries. The growing number of construction and infrastructure development projects in India, China, and the United States necessitates the use of these safety kits.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on supply chains, governments, industries, and people. Because of the pandemic, the personal protective equipment industry has received a lot of attention. It made many countries realize the importance of developing domestic supply chains rather than importing them. For example, in June 2020, a large number of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India began contributing to this industry’s supply. The World Health Organization (WHO) also stated that the industry should increase manufacturing by more than 40% in order to increase the supply and meet the growing demand.
On that front, a start-up named SafeKraft was established in the year 2020 during the pandemic to meet the needs of the manufacturing, construction, offshore, and government sectors that require high-quality personal protective equipment (PPE) or safety gear, such as safety helmets, safety harnesses, safety gloves, safety shoes, etc. Today, SafeKraft is a well-known manufacturer of high-quality personal protective equipment (PPE) for the safety, construction, and industrial markets. It creates products by cultivating an environment of excellence, flexibility, and innovation.
SafeKraft manufactures, distributes, and exports a variety of PPE from its headquarter in Bangalore. It offers products at reasonable prices without sacrificing quality. The business is presently concentrating on using the best materials to make and design its products in order to assist industry meet its requirements.
Huge MNCs like Saint Gobain India, AO Smith India, Hikal Ltd, Siemens Limited, Powerica Ltd, Fosroc Chemicals, etc., to name a few, have so far shown great appreciation and positive feedback for the brand’s products like safety helmets, safety harnesses, safety glasses, safety shoes, and safety gloves. Today, SafeKraft India produces over 100 different items. The founder, Mr. Zulfikar’s unwavering determination and vision made all of this possible.
In conversation with the founder of SafeKraft – Mr. Zulfikar, The team of Innovative Zone had a fantastic time interacting with the founder of Safekraft. We were curious to dive into his life and see life through his lenses. We asked him about the journey of becoming what he is today and we were thrilled to learn from the experiences. At the young age of 15, Mr. Zulfikar began working to support his family.
In his first visit to a manufacturing client 25 kilometers outside of Bangalore City on his bicycle, he secured his first order as a trader for Rs. 5000 with just Rs. 5 in his wallet and a bicycle for transportation. Zulfikar, who was born and raised in Mumbai and the Raigad area of Maharashtra, relocated to Bangalore in 2000 to pursue higher studies. But destiny had other ideas. He began working at a young age.
This was fortunate because it allowed him to learn from his mistakes early. In 2003, he made a foray into the public safety sector. He shares that he built his company brick by brick. He further adds that when he lost his father who was his pillar of support he felt devastated but even then he decided to embrace life as it came and thus eventualy started Safekraft India.
“Brick by brick, I created my business. I stumbled and erred, but I took my mistakes to heart and kept going. My father, who had been a rock for me, died in 2004 when I was barely 17. Even though I was heartbroken, I continued on with this quest. The national government gave its Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme a major push during the epidemic year of 2020. I was motivated by all of this to launch my own manufacturing company and brand, SafeKraft.”
When asked what inspires him to perform at his best, he says that safety professionals are his role models. He believes that they protect our lives and thus the onus of keeping them safe is his responsibility. For that purpose he and his team adhere to the top-notch quality standards.
“I have always believed that those working in the safety industry—whether they are safety professionals, EHS managers, safety appliances manufacturers, safety trainers, etc.—are doing a heroic job of trying to prevent workplace injuries or preserve precious lives. Therefore, I continue to develop items with the same philosophy in mind for the industrial and construction workers who are the brand’s target market.”
Further elucidating the challenges that are faced in this industry Mr. Zulfikar states that the industry’s present issue is its resistance to delivering goods in small quantities. As a young company, SafeKraft focuses on removing minimum order quantity restrictions and providing its clientele with the little or large quantities as they require. He strongly believes this is a vital element that sets SafeKraft apart from its rivals, along with prompt deliveries and high-quality products.
To provide the greatest products and services to its customers, SafeKraft’s design and R&D team is always developing new, cutting-edge product designs. SafeKraft is the first PPE manufacturer in India with a tech-based web-portal, making it unique in terms of creative technology. Customers can use features like “Know Your Credit Limit,” “Generate Online Quotation from the Portal,” “Request for Demos,” “Request for Trial,” and “Upload Purchase Order,”
Mr. Zulfikar has an ambitious dream. He shares that “by the end of 2033, SafeKraft hopes to generate sales of at least INR 1 billion. In addition to covering the entire nation, we also intend to export to other nations. By 2033, we are working towards a dream to appoint at least 50 Channel Partners throughout India. Additionally, we intend to build a cutting-edge warehouse in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.”
SafeKraft India Pvt Ltd has been recognised by Indian Achievers Forum as one of The Most Promising Start-Ups, 2022. The founder, Mr. Zulfikar, was recently recognised by Passion Vista in collaboration with the Asian African Chamber of Commerce & Industry as one of The Most Admired Global Indians, 2022. Before concluding this immensely motivating conversation we asked the founder to share his thoughts for the aspiring entrepreneurs and he was generous enough to share his wisdom and we are utterly thankful for his time and generosity. He concludes,
“Always have confidence in yourself and your aspirations. Make an effort to change the world. Help those in need. Bring about employment Be a person of discipline. Never undervalue your own labor. Work hard because there is no replacement for it and you will always be rewarded for it. One should be utterly resolute, dedicated, and devoted in everything they undertake. There is plenty to gain from real-world experiences outside of the realm of schools and colleges. One must focus on learning and improving every day; there is no set age limit for learning.”
