TRAI Looks Forward To Auction Three New Bands

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has started consulting stakeholders’ views for the auction of the 3 new spectrum bands of frequency 37-37.5 GHz, 37.5-40 GHz and 42.5-43.5 GHz for mobile services in the coming years for the use of 5G. These all new spectrum bands will create a high frequency range, of available around 4,000 Megahertz for mobile service.
In a first, three spectrum bands 37-37.5 GHz, 37.5-40 GHz and 42.5-43.5 GHz are being put together in the auction. These are a different block of spectrum than the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, 2,300 MHz, 2,500 MHz, 3,300 MHz and 26GHz, will be later put in a different block for auction.
TRAI has released a consultation paper on Thursday, April 4, 2024 named “Auction of Spectrum in 37-37.5 GHz, 37.5-40 GHz and 42.5-43.5 GHz bands Identified for IMT”. TRAI said in an official statement.In the consultation paper, TRAI has asked stakeholders to shed their opinion regarding the auction of these new spectrum bands pricing, block size, spectrum caps, validity, obligations and other terms and conditions.
It has given stakeholders time from May 2, 2024 to May 16, 2024 to submit their thoughts on issues raised regarding the consultation paper.
