Twitter brings a much-awaited WhatsApp-like feature, here’s how it works
By Sanjay Maurya
Popular microblogging platform, Twitter has rolled out a new feature that lets users search for specific content and keywords from Direct Messages (DMs). Earlier, Twitter users had to scroll through their chats to find specific messages or keywords; However, now the platform has enabled this WhatsApp-like DM search feature.
For example, if you type “Innovative zone magazine” in the insert box, the results section will display any messages that contain the word “Innovative zone magazine.” This newly added feature will save users time previously spent scrolling through the entire chat to discover a single message.

The microblogging site noted in an official announcement of the feature “We know you’ve been waiting for the option to search your DMs. Now you can use the search bar in your inbox to find specific messages using keywords and names”. Previously, users could only use the DM search feature to look up people’s names or the name of a group. Users may now search not only contacts but also individual messages, according to the latest update. For many years, a comparable feature has been accessible on Meta’s instant messaging platform, WhatsApp.
In May of last year, the microblogging service debuted the DM search tool for Android. The company had stated at the time that the content search capability would be available that year, but it had missed the deadline. It’s better to be late than never. The long-awaited feature has arrived. For the first two years after its inception, the DM search feature was only available for iOS users. Last year, the capability was made available to Android users. Both Android and iOS users can use Twitter’s new content search tool. Users must first update their mobile or desktop versions from their respective app stores to use it.
